Recipes    In The Movies    A Cute Cat!

My home used to be quiet... just me and the shadows. Everything was neat and clean, things were right were I left them. After I retired, I decided it was a little too quiet so I went to the shelter and adopted a cat. Life changed. There were toys everywhere, missing keys, overturned wastebaskets, etc. As the cat grew older, things went back to normal, everything tidy and in its place. As the cat grew older, she settled down and spent a lot of time on her cat tree looking out the window.

At some point, I decided I wanted a puppy. After almost a year of searching, I finally found exactly what I was looking for on Craig's List. Now that this little critter has moved in with us, I know life will never be peaceful and quiet again. It's like having a two-year around the house!! I can't find my shoes, tissue boxes are in shreds on the floor, even my Hershey Kisses are not safe! However, I wouldn't give either one up! So, without further ado, let me introduce you to my pets.

Callie Cat

Callie is a dilute Calico. I got her from the Pleasanton, California, pet shelter in 2002 when she was about 3 months old. She was so tiny and was afraid of everything, even her own shadow. It wasn't long before she started to feel at home and was getting into everything! I had to "childproof" the cabinets and teach her where she was not allowed to go like on the kitchen counters. That's off limits! However, I suspect that she may sneak up there now and again when I'm away shopping. Callie likes being the queen of the house. She has her own electric cat box, tons of toys, and a nice cat tree that sits right in front of a window. Watching the birds and rabbits is a favorite daily routine. She has grown to a whopping 17 pounds and I can't carry her around like I used to.

Miss Daisy

Daisy, the newest member of our family, moved in on June 8, 2007. She is a solid black Chihuahua-Pomeranian mix and weighed 2 pounds and 14 ounces when I got her. Daisy is simply adorable! She has fluffy hair and the cutest little face. We are now busy with potty training and once again, putting things out of reach. She sleeps a lot as most babies do and no matter how many toys she has, my shoes are her favorite things to chew on. She's got quite a temper for one so young! I've been told that Daisy should grow up to be somewhere between 7 and 8 pounds. She is very smart for being only 9 weeks old. The most difficult part is the potty training. Right now, she manages to go on the paper about 95% of the time so I know it won't be long and she'll be doing it every time.

Getting to Know You

Callie was not very happy about having a new member in the family. She's been queen of the domain for a long time and didn't want this little critter coming around and changing the order of things. For the first 4 days, Callie walked around with caution and scoped out the situation. Then she got curious and wanted to see what "it" was. Callie would only let Daisy get about a foot away before she started to hiss and bat at her. Callie had to try out Daisy's bed as well as check out all her toys. I think now, she knows this little girl is here to stay because for the last two days, Callie has at least tolerated Daisy. I know they will be the best of friends in no time at all.
